Beware of Formaldehyde Tainted Bras - Lawsuits Filed
Thursday, February 12, 2009

Bras sold by Victoria's Secret have been the subject of numerous complaints by women who say they sustained serious and painful rashes, hives and scarring as a result of their Victoria's Secret bras. Preliminary investigation of these claims have revealed that some Victoria's Secret Bras tested positive for the chemical formaldehyde. Exposure to this toxin could be behind these Victoria's Secret bra injuries.

If you or someone you know suffered a rash, hives, scarring or some other skin injury from a Victoria's Secret Bra, you may be entitled to compensation. Please contact Bagolie Friedman Injury Lawyers toll free at 1-866-333-3LAW (1-866-333-3529).

In 2008, an Ohio woman filed suit against Victoria's Secret, alleging she became “utterly sick” after she wore her new Angels Secret Embrace and Very Sexy Extreme Me Push-Up bras. In her lawsuit, the plaintiff said the rash she suffered was "red hot to the touch, burning and itching."

A lab test of Victoria's Secret bras like the ones worn by the plaintiff showed the presence of formaldehyde in the fabric. Formaldehyde is used in the textile industry to make fabrics crease-resistant. It is possible that women who have experienced rashes, hives and scarring from Victoria's Secret bras are allergic to formaldehyde.

Formaldehyde Allergy Symptoms

Allergy to clothing is quite common. The reaction is due to the contact of clothing to the skin. People can develop formaldehyde allergy reactions (allergic skin disease and hives) through skin contact with solutions of formaldehyde or non-crease clothing containing formaldehyde.

The symptoms of a formaldehyde skin allergy include:
Eczema type lesions at the site of intimate contact with clothing.
In the preliminary stages, clothing allergy appears as a pruritic erythematous papulovesicular eruption which gradually becomes chronic and lichen like if not timely diagnosed and treated.
Presence of red, macerated skin on the waistband area. This rash can become secondarily infected with bacterial organisms in hot, humid environments.
Itching at the site of contact.
In some cases, people allergic to formaldehyde in clothing may experience itching and tearing eyes and, shortness of breath.
